A NOTE OF THANKS FROM FR MICHAEL:

Fr Michael writes:

Christmas is a special time in the life of any family or community. This year families have been unable to gather and celebrate their life together and this is no less true for our two parish communities. This year, at the heart of our celebration of Christmas there have been a number of initiatives to reach out to all those unable to join us in Church and so a big word of thanks to Maurice who produced our two parish Christmas cards and to all those who distributed them. Further words of thanks need to go to our Choir and readers and all those who participated in our online Advent Carol Service and online Christmas Mass, to Sean for his Advent reflections and editing of the Carol Service. A special word of thanks to Joe for bringing his professional skills and equipment to produce such a lovely recording of the Christmas Mass. Within our churches cleaners, flower arrangers, crib & tree erectors, servers, once again our Choir overseen so marvellously by Claire even in her confinement(!), and especially in 2020 stewards and sanitizers have ensured our Christmas Masses in church could be celebrated safely and with real dignity and decorum.

Of course, much of this goes on throughout the entire year as well as other tasks which can go unnoticed – preparation of the weekly bulletin, washing altar linen, financial book-keeping, SVP and the Social Caring Group. This year has made its own unique demands and Marina, Pauline and several others are to be thanked for their dedicated commitment to contacting the shielding and the housebound and to running errands when needed. It is possible that some-one will have been overlooked in these thanks; this is not intentional and apologies if this is the case.

Finally, Fr Michael, Sr Anne and Sean would like to thank everyone for their kind and generous gifts and offerings at this time.

Thank you for donation

A huge thanks to Jade Reilly the owner of ‘Flowers by Jade’ Keighley Road, who kindly donated St Columba’s stunning Christmas flowers.

Sean Elliott

At the end of September Sean Elliott, who is preparing for the priesthood, joined our Parishes. He has completed his academic studies at the Venerable English College in Rome and will join us for an extended pastoral experience until Easter next year. Clearly there are some real challenges presented by the Covid pandemic making it difficult to offer the normal parish experience at this time, but it is important to make his placement as fruitful as possible for Sean.

Ordination to the Diaconate of Chris Butler

Chris had been n touch to say: “The ordination took place uneventfully on Wednesday (17th June). It was a scaled down affair in the College chapel rather than the Basilica with the Archpriest of the Basilica, Cardinal Harvey, presiding. There were the precautions you would expect, face masks, sanitisers etc. There were no guests. I must admit that having something that was comparatively simple suited me. I attach a few photos that maybe in interest to you, Sister Anne and others.

Many more are available via the Diocesan website.” (dioceseofleeds.org.uk)
