THE YEAR OF THE WORD

The Bishops of England and Wales have announced a special year dedicated to the Sacred Scriptures which is called the Year of the Word which has for its theme “The God who Speaks.”

It marks both the 10th anniversary of the publication of Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on Scripture Verbum Domini and the 1600th anniversary of the death of Saint Jerome, the Church Father most associated with Sacred Scripture.

Bishop Marcus will preside at a special celebration of Vespers at Leeds Cathedral this Sunday 1st. December at 4.30pm to formally open this year. A number of special events will be held throughout this special year.

Wishing all the best to Chris Butler who is training for priesthood at the Pontifical Beda College in Rome.

Chris has spent the last 5 weeks with us and has made his mark in our Parish, he will be missed.

We hope he will be back to see us and we will be keeping him in our prayers.

BISHOP’S VISITATION THANKS

Many thanks to all who supported the  recent BISHOP’S VISITATION  especially those who cleaned and decorated our churches for the occasion and who supported the Liturgies at the two Masses he celebrated.

Celebration of Confirmation

Many thanks to all who helped to ensure that our Deanery celebration of Confirmation was a wonderful occasion:

Huge thanks to the Catechists who prepared the youngsters, to those who prepared the church, booklets, flowers, certificates etc, and to the musicians and singers who enhanced the liturgy on the night itself.

These services are very much appreciated.

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES 2019-2020

NEW OFFERTORY ENVELOPES are now being prepared for the new financial year 2019-20. Could we please invite you to sign up to use the envelopes if you don’t already use them.

Non-Tax Payers – it is more important than ever before that your offering is received via the offertory envelopes to ensure that any donations you make are given to the church of your choice.

Alternatively if preferred you can set up a Standing Order.

We would also really like to encourage all tax-payers to sign Gift Aid Declaration forms. If you wish to do so please fill in your details on the list provided in the Hall entrance, fill in the gift aid form or see Fr Michael or Marina for more information.

CHURCH HEATING

We are now back in Church and the church has returned to full usage.

Many thanks to all those who helped to ensure that the hall was ready for use throughout the winter and in recent weeks, arranging chairs, moving the altar furniture etc. Their labours are greatly appreciated and everyone’s co-operation to make this arrangement work has been greatly appreciated.

WEST VIEW PARK FUN DAY – thanks to all who donated or attended. We made a massive £395 towards our Church Refurbishment Fund!

“Smartie Challenge”

Grand total of £1418.00  (updated figure)

raised through the Smartie Challenge towards our Church Restoration Fund. Also a gift aid amount will be added at a later date.

AED AWARENESS SESSION

Thanks to all who attended the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Awareness Session for our newly installed defibrillator. It was a really informative session and well received by all.

Huge thanks to our sponsors the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund, The Warley Trust, Clifby Works (Mohammed) and Trish Coyle. Thanks also to Neil Marsay from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service who provided the training session on behalf of Danny Jones DF.

Many thanks also to the Team at St Columba’s who provided fantastic refreshments/buffet after the event.
